About Devo
Devo has been writing since she received her first diary at 7. Her path has been winding and long. When she was 12 a family friend asked what she was going to be when she grew up “I wanna act and I wanna eat” was the answer from the cocky youngster. She fulfilled her childhood dream in the most unusual way. In addition to her writing she has done voice acting, stage acting, storytelling and a 30-year stint as a professional clown, only recently hanging up her size 14 shoes. Along the way Devo also pivoted to being a professional puppeteer for the city of Austin where she wrote, built, and performed puppet shows for 30 years. You can explore some of her work below.
Devo was diagnosed with bipolar disorder later in life and is a huge mental health advocate. The world health organization stated in 2019 that 1 in every 8 people worldwide or 970 million people around the world were living with a mental disorder. In the USA the number is 1 in 20 as of 2021. These are our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children. It is time to shine a light on these families and help them navigate these rough waters.
Devo’s mission is to bring joy and hope to a world that feels overwhelming. Her children’s books bring joy and her poetry understanding. You can find Devo in Austin Texas rejoicing with her five kids, six grandchildren and numerous chosen children.
Socials for Devo are on the bottom of the page. Reach out, she would love to hear from you.
